We Support President Donald Trump’s Peace Plan
Statement by Legado a las Américas
We welcome the peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza, with the hope that these early steps will bear lasting fruit.
We celebrate the first signs of progress — the support from Arab countries and the agreement reached between the Government of Israel and Hamas, which provides for the release of Israeli hostages kidnapped after the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack, along with the release of hundreds of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons for violent acts.
The cessation of military operations by the Israel Defense Forces represents another significant step toward ending the conflict and the suffering of innocent civilians held hostage by Hamas.
We express our support for the following phases of the plan, which include massive humanitarian aid, free from ideological bias, to the people of Gaza, coordinated by the United Nations; security oversight by troops from the United States and Arab countries to ensure its safe delivery, the creation of a joint Western–Arab administration for Gaza’s reconstruction, led by former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, and the disarmament of Hamas militias.
We also reject the actions of self-proclaimed “progressive” and radical left groups, as well as “social movements” in the West, that have carried out violent protests in Europe and the United States — not only against Israel but also against citizens of Jewish origin.
Their motivation stems from hatred and resentment — the same seeds from which totalitarianisms have always grown.
